Practicing my handheld technique with this shot. Mid day at noon, but cloudy sky. The sky was a dull grey, so I added a blue filter to the sky.

Hi Loi, looking good, trust you have updated the firmware. See what happens when you up the ISO.

Good detail and I like the wing angle, just wonder about the blue, does it look right, but all personal preferences & tastes.

    Hi Steve,

Yes the 1DX performs wonderfully at ISO-1600, I'm no longer worry too much until I had to use > ISO 2000. Sent mine in for cleaning, so will update the firmware when I get it back (or hopefully Canon will do it for me free of charge). I cleaned the sensor and messed up, but luckily they said they would do it free of charge even though I bought the camera more than 1 year ago!!!

Not sure about the blue either. I don't have any neutral grey reference here. LR5 "As shot" comes in at 5550 but "Auto" at 7500. now that you mentioned the blue and I realized the sky was cloudy although at high noon, 7500 may in fact be the truer color. Will look into this and repost later. I don't understand why the AWB and "Auto" in LR5 differ so much. Any tips here for me?

    Thanks

    Loi

nice catch, good exposure and sharpness. the main issue is the grass that blocked the bird

Loi, good to hear you have got over that hurdle, 2000-3200+ go for it, don't let it cramp your exploration.

They should do a free Service for you, inclusive of sensor cleaning and upgrade the Firmware of you.

There is a way in PS you can find a mid grey, but sadly this is after you have exported it which may not help you?

Sharp and well exposed, love the overlapping flight feathers on the near wing. Yes, the main issue is the oof grass that obstructs the bird, a bit of bad luck there.

Arash, I had no idea that was due to the OOF grass. It looked kind of weird too, but since I wasn't familiar with this species, I thought that how the underwing should look. LOL.
