    Default American Coots

In the right light and with some action, I find the lowly American coots quite attractive. I hope that you agree. The challenge that I had with this image is the depth of field. The right bird was slightly out of the focal plane. I sharpened its head more and then added a little more sharpening around its eye. Is there anything else I should have done? Comments and criticism very much welcome.

I like the interaction and the view of the feet. looks like critical focus was off the coots. Too much sharpening and contrast has made the image look harsh with crunchy details (note the jaggies on the front coot's beak)

Can you post a 100% crop of the right bird to see if it can be fixed or not?

I agree with Arash here, how much crop was this image? IQ was just not there. Plus you need CW rotation.

Thanks Troy and Arash. Troy, the image is nearly full-frame. Here is a 100% crop of the right bird's head. I did nothing except for crop in this view.

I would tone down the use of both filters and see if that helps.

Hey John, that's very OOF. It will be very tough to fix unfortunately

Thanks Troy and Arash for taking a second look. For what it is worth, I toned down the Nik filters in this version.

It is a bit better but it's still quite obvious the coots were OOF from the crunchy details...

This type of shot is difficult and usually works best when both birds are in the same plane focus parallel to the back of camera....

Besides the comments made, more room on left and right would help.
