Nice and simple image Jonathan, great pose, soft light, and BG. I do wish the whole perch was in focus, though it may not have been possible with the light you were working with.

    Looking forward to more!

Striking image! I agree on removing vertical stick on left. Great perch, exposure and detail

    Hi Jon
Bird spot on but I,m affraid the background is not for me. Just being honest. Its not the way we would normally see a bird in my very personal view. I like a bit of detail in the back . I know we can't always get it. I keep thinking of the old pics in "Cage and Aviary Birds "
    Cheers

Hi Jon, lovely soft light, and I really like the angled pose and HA. You nailed the exposure and sharpness on the goldfinch, and just love how the colours stand out. Im fine with the vertical branch on the left, but would maybe come in on the right a touch more - it would create more of a vertical.

Thanks very much everyone - much appreciated. I understand your preference for a slightly busier background Johnny - usually the birds are in trees or bushes with many twigs behind them, but when you get them against a clear background they stand out more strikingly to me - hence the position of the perch. I will be adjusting perch positions before too long as hopefully the sun gets a little higher in the sky and then I may be able to vary the background a little more.

    Hi Jon
No big deal- its just a personal fad I have - as I do with relections . A lot of my stuff in the old days or even now has plain backdrops.

Nice on here Jon, awesome BG, perch (except for that extra bit at left that you mention). A bit more body turned our way to show the yellow on the wing better would have been great, but I still like it as is.

I like the perch, pose, sharpness and BG. I would clone out the vertical branch but that is personal taste. Excellent image Jonathan!

Very nice, love the color on the face. I wish we could see more of the yellow on the side.
