Hi Dan - It's a nice profile look at the elk. Looks like there was a bit of movement in the head. With a profile like this I probably would have opened up the lens to f7.1 or f8 to get a bit more ss, especially hh. The backlight doesn't bother but if it were mine I would run a luminosity mask to tame the highlights on the back of the elk and in the grass. There's also a lot of blue in the bg that I might reduce but not a deal breaker.
TFS,
Rachel

Reason: Meant to include comment about blue cast in bg
Hi Dan,
like the pose of the elk and the comp very much and think you handled the backlight quite good.
Good sharpness and detail where it counts.I would try to burn the HL and give a slight mid tone to the whole image. The blacks are looking a bit thin, but be careful not to block them.
I am fine with the blues in the BG , but would definitely reduce them in the Elk.
Nice pose and open setting here Dan. Andreas raised some good points, it looked a bit thin tonally for me at first glance.
I'd take out the blueish cast in the BG, and add a hint more sharpening. Come to think of it - the image as a whole can go about 2/3 of a stop darker for my tastes?
Nicely framed. And you did well with a relatively poor light angle. The white sunlit triangle on the rear back could be toned down. Yes to losing the blue cast and darkening the grass a bit.
