Dry Tortugas - 5D III, 300 f/2.8 + 2x, f/8 ISO 640 -1/3 shutter 1/1580
There were a lot of raptors at the end of fall migration at Dry Tortugas National Park.
The female Nortern Harrier had just caught a American Kestrel. It seems she could have crushed it with her talons, but eventually the Kestrel got away.
For a moment a Broad-winged Hawk popped into the scene, made one move for the Kestrel but after a short fight flew away. The fight scenes all have the Broad-winged from the back. The BW was perhaps also spooked by me under a nearby tree. I'll post that below just to show the three raptors in a frame shot.
Regarding the photo, not sure what I could have done better. There is a log below the frame, so I could not have gotten lower. Since the shutter speed was quite high, maybe a lower ISO setting could have been used. For sure I shouldnīt have clipped the Harrier's wings on the left side.
thanks for looking
