    ...except it isn't...it's a lioness .

This lady is a rockstar in the Mara Triangle and we found her up this tree often. This was towards the end of the day, at sunset, as she decided to descend and do a half-hearted stalk on some zebra and wildebeest passing by close to the tree.

    Pretty much full frame.
A very happy 2014 to everyone!

    Neat capture Morkel.
I particularly like th efact that although she is descending she has her head raised and you can see the eyes and the intent.
Your composition works well for me

    Hello Morkel,

Love this, I totally agree with Martin above and I like the positioning of the lioness in the frame, colours look very natural and a bonus to see some environment too!
Image well presented and I enjoyed reading the info, would love to see more from this trip Morkel

    Kind regards,

    Hi Morkel,
agree with the two other comments, neat shot ,as usual well processed and presented.
Like the colors and the overall tonality, but wish for some more depth in the tree bark and the lioness , but lesser in the lioness.
The position of the tree is working really nice with the look and the descent of the lioness, good start into the new season...

    like wise happy new year.

Hi Morkel - I too really like the comp, especially the use of the canopy of the tree at the top of the frame. Position of the lioness is also spot on. I might look at reducing the reds slightly in the tree trunk.

Very nice pose from lioness and situation with the background showing through. To me it looks like she is tipping to the left, and that is confirmed to me, by the horizon. If you've got any space around, then I'd rotate cw slightly to level the horizon. Think it would also bring the tree trunk to a slight angle which would even add to the 'shapes' in the image.
    Beautiful details everywhere as always.

Love the tree well to the right in the frame.
