This year in the Falklands I concentrated mostly on capturing images illustrating subject behavior with an environmental context. The new 200-400 w/built in 1.4x and 1DX proved ideal in the windy, dusty, sandy, and often wet conditions, affording an unprecedented range of focal length while providing outstanding weather resistance. And, yes, the lens can acquire AF fast and accurate enough for flight images with the 1.4x engaged, wink.

Beautiful image Charles. I like that the ducks head is just clearing the wave and how you can see the body and feet through the water. Great timing and composition.
It's the images with the behavioral and environmental elements which please me the most when I make them and when I view them. This one is no different and is quite unique, Chas. Love seeing the duck riding the wave away from the viewer, and the opposing wave/splash of the duck. You can see just enough of his body and yellow feet.
Glad to hear the 200-400 with or without the 1.4 engaged is handling flight images.
Cool shot of a neat behavior. Funny thing is I thought it needed to be posted in a bigger size, then went to your site to look at some of your nice work and the front page is this shot except much larger and it makes a much bigger impact as we can see the details better and the duck under the water. TFS
Great behavioral shot. I love the curl of the wave in the FG, and the duck's head clearing the wave. Yes, I'd be nice to see it posted at 1200 px. Eager to see more from the Falklands.
