    Default Glaucous Gull Yawn

We are all so excited by all the snowy owls this year on the east Coast that it is easy to overlook some of the other great birds that are around. I am not the best at gull id, but after some study believe this to be a glaucous gull, first cycle.

    Thank you for looking.

What a great detailed look into a very complicated mouth. Unusual!
It's a fun image. I think it would be much more effective if you increased the contrast. it is very flat.

Hi Grace,I agree about the detail inside the bill it really is good, would like to see it a bit darker without effecting the eye if that is possible which might bring out more of the smashing detail you have got, just a thought could be very wrong of course.

I had to "yawn" when I pulled it up! ...and that's a good thing! (especially in light of your title!) Detail inside the bill is great and really pulls you into the image. Perhaps a TEENY bit more room and/or contrast would even be "funner"!

Contrast and the rest of the techs look fine to me. Looks like a first year glaucous. Where?

Perfect head angle to go with the yawn. The grey shape behind the head was bad luck....

Can post one here with the bird's mouth shut? Or an image showing the whole bird? Or both? I think that I saw one of these in two decades when I lived in NY....

Artie, I came back here to make sure I answered your questions. I started a new thread with an image of the entire bird above.
