Haven't gotten out much this year, but I'm getting ready for the Christmas break.

Pretty easy shot to get at Bosque when the cranes return to roost at the pond in the evenings.

    Canon 1D4, 700mm
    1/2000, f6.3, iso 640, handheld, manual
    Minor crop.

    All feedback appreciated.
    Thanks.

Nice Sid! Perfect head on landing pose and the eyes are nice and visible. Exposed perfect and the feather detail looks awesome. Love the perfect wing position with the separate primaries showing. Nice view of the feet too. Well done

    Hi Sidharth, keep them coming...

Like the incoming pose and the subject has good detail with a nice backdrop. If you have the image content I wonder if a CCW rotation of just over 2 might help? For sake of cleanness and depending on your ethics, I wonder if that feather should go on the top wing RHS, but no deal breaker.

Hi Sid, tack sharp, and the full wingspread shows off the feather detail nicely. I do like the eye contact, and the eyes show up nicely from the red crest of the head. What a killer BG too. Well captured.

Light is something very special here and thats what makes the picture all that wonderful, the bird with open wings and so perfectly exposed is lovely
i like those dangling feet and that superb head position where the eyes are also on view.
i may go with the CCW suggestion by Steve as that may make this more perfect to look at.
    very nicely done image

This is way too good again. Beautifully lit subject, nice angle, BG and great landing pose. One more vote for a bit of CCW. Congrats for this great capture.

Nice, but not at all easy this year--there is no water and no place for them to land north of the flight deck as there was last year. Could you please post a JPEG that represents the original capture?

Excellent landing pose, symmetry, and habitat. The light is sweet too. Have to agree with Artie about the ease of getting frames like yours this year.

Ok. I should have stated it differently, even going by last years standards. While incoming shots were indeed easy, I don't think I got many where the bird was perfectly parallel to the sensor with both eyes visible.
Will post the full frame when I get home this evening.

Artie, here's the untouched full frame original. Just curious, why did you ask for it?

Truly a superb incoming crane image. Love the straight on angle, the light is sweet, as is the BG and wing position. It all came together.
