Looks like Bosque! Good DOF to make the bird stand out from the BG, and very nice color!

I wonder if a little more sharpening on output of the JPEG (or after) would be good.

Thanks, Diane. Yes, Bosque last week ... already icing up quite nicely. I'll try a bit more sharpening and see what happens. I tend to go too far with it, so I usually tread lightly now.

    Hi Ian

I really like this picture. I agree with Diane about a little more sharpening and also wonder if it needs a little CW rotation. I would also clone out the one small bright dot above right from the birds head.

Lovely colour Ian. Funny, I am not seeing the need for more sharpening- maybe my eyes are getting older!

Another vote for removing the little light spot in the upper BG right of centre.

Lovely! I'm not used to the beautiful Bosque colors... but I'm getting there! (and wish I COULD go there!) Love the pose... sharpness works for me.... take out the "dot"... PERFECT!

I was getting sloppy -- I meant sharpening on the head. The FG grasses and body are detailed enough. There seems to be something about birds that the head often doesn't appear as sharp s the rest -- maybe often the active focus sensor is on the body. In this case, f/4 isn't much DOF.

I find the "calculated" DOF is often a lot more than what I'm seeing in my images. Maybe with our better loupes now, the acceptable circle of confusion needs to be tightened up.

Yes, I think just sharpening the head is in order and removing that one spot already mentioned. I love the colors in this. Nice job Ian!

    Ian:

Lovely colors, frost nice. I suspect a bit of motion blur in the head at this shutter speed, based on the overall sharpness seen in the frame at equal distance. Still worth a bit more sharpening, but it may not respond gracefully.

    Cheers
