    Default Watching the King

Since it's "Animalscape Binge Week" here on BPN

A scene from the Mara Triangle this September past on an overcast morning. We were watching something else when we heard the males roar not 100m up the road.
I love how giraffes keep their eyes fixed on nearby predators and even follow them around...

Oh, and we were the only vehicles with them for more than 45 minutes, after which one other vehicle arrived for the duration of the sighting...so much for the "horror" stories people tell about how busy the Mara is during migration season.

    Techs:
    Nikon D800
    Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR-II @ 200mm
    f6.3 | 1/250 SS | ISO-1400
Needs to be viewed larger so I posted at 1200px (normally keep mine to 1000px)...

Hi Morkel - at first I thought you had posted this one before but I must have seen it elsewhere. Nice looking male with vibrant colors. The giraffes behind take it to another level. Too bad the one on the right wouldn't cooperate as much as the others. There's one in every crowd. Great scene, well captured.

    Rachel

Morkel, that is a great shot. Beautiful male lion, so regal, and the giraffe really complements the lion. I wish there would be one more giraffe on the RHS! But since you don't have one, what do you think about cropping a little bit off the RHS? Loi

Liked this when I saw it elsewhere as well.
Would look impressive printed at 1M across. Very minor nit would to have the King slightly less central.

So true Morkel, and make for great first indicators when you're also keeping an eye out for anything unusual, they were very helpful in Ruaha with so many of them around.

Trust me the horror stories do exist, you know that ..........but most who come @ migration time would have driven straight past this animalscape. All the better for us to sit a saviour the sighting.

    Hi Morkel,
lovely animal scape , with all the elements in the right place, just one is not playing fair in this game.
Like the image design , but would loose the tree that is growing out of the giraffe , if printed. If printed i am with Marc , go large or better larger.
I would go slightly cooler inn the WB, i feel it is a bit warm overall, is there some magenta creeping through inn the soil under the lion ?

The blacks could stand some more depth ,for me.
The male is nice looking, but not as nice as the ones in the Kg………..

Well done , nicely seen and photographed Morkel.
