    Default Leopardscape

On the theme of the excellent animalscapes that have been appearing recently, I thought I would post this. It's not an excellent image, but it's very evocative of this area in the rains, and I like it. I think it could be improved by those who are brilliant at these kinds of things, and I'd love to hear any suggestions. It's a mid-sized crop which is why the IQ is down a bit, but I don't think it matters too much that the leopards aren't perfectly clear as it's more about the surroundings and the scene.....?

Like this a lot here Ed The overall colour and light are very nice indeed.
My suggestion would be a small crop (if quality allows?) to take out some top foliage clutter and the tree on LHS. I'd be very happy to have this in my files, where exactly was this taken?

Hi Ed, I really like how the two leopards with their colourful coats stand out from the lush green foliage. Small in the frame works for me, and Im glad you had a least one being attentive. I do wish we could have seen the others head. Could you have moved to your left?

Ed, this must have been a terrific sighting.
The leopards are quite small in the frame and I'd be tempted to crop this quite hard. Almost up tp the upright tree bole on the LH side and about 15% from the top to about thwrw that seed pod is hanging. I don't feel that the green floiage at the top adds anything to the image.

Hi Ed - a nice scene and as someone who mostly visits Africa during your winter, it's interesting to see all the lush greens. For me the biggest issues with the image are the blocked view of the second leopard and I also want more room to the left following the visible leopard's gaze. How about posting the full frame image to see if there is an alternate comp that might work?

    Rachel

Hi Ed, I really like the concept of this, but not having the second Leopard as mentioned above is a crying shame. Good call on using the trees to frame the image and I like the idea of the bow of the tree leading you up in a slight incline. If you have it then perhaps moving the whole crop down a fraction to have a hint more FG may help? I also wonder about a hint of NR to the top right, you could also look into some Curves adjustments to bring some more 'contrast' to the image, but targeting areas rather than a global application.

Trust you are enjoying the warmth rather than the bleak weather you recently experienced.

    Ed

Like the others, I really like the concept and approach of the image. I think they have also covered some the crits.

I really like having to hunt with the eye in almost a sea of green.

    Hi Ed,

I love this scene, great image. You got already good suggestions above. I have one to throw in the pot.
I just RP it what I had in my mind. I boost the Leopards a bit more with light, took off the light from the LHS tree trunk, since this caught my eyes first!
    You see what I meant
    WDYT?

I like! Good light and clarity and overall framing is nice. Nothing you could do about the other leopard - in a perfect world right? I would leave the tree on LHS, but would crop some off the top to lose the apparently OOF treetops.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Here is the full frame image, but with the same processing applied.

Annette - I like what you did with the tree on the LHS, but I can't see any difference with the leopards? Did you mean that I should lighten them to make them stand out more.

Yes, it would have been amazing to get the other leopard too, but she was facing away from me, and when I tried to drive to the left, I was behind some bushes so I couldn't see anything at all. There was a flooded gully between me and them so this was as close as I could get.

I will try a RP based on all your suggestions and upload later today.

    Thanks so much.

    Hi Ed,
like the lush green setting with the one and a half leopards as a bonus, you captured.
Good choice of the comp .
Overall the image is a tad light and thin in the tones, good suggestions already made.I would like to see a Velvia touch to it, with really boooom greens and yellows.

I like it and the blocked view of the other leopard has been discussed... Keep taking these types of images!
