Hello,
as i drive with the car i saw this little bird of prey. I stop the car, pull out the camera and propped my arms on the car roof to make the images.

Backlighting makes the tail of the bird the focus of attention. That's novel and it's appealing.
The light streaming through the feathers reveals some wonderful colors!
Why did you use such a slow shutter speed and and low ISO?
Excellent hovering pose captured, Holger.
Very well done with the bird captured at 1/800. Would like a little more room from the wing tips to the edges of the image.
Hi Holger, Im glad you managed to stop your car, get out your equipment and that the kestrel was still around for you get this lovely hovering pose. I do like the backlighting through the fanned tail feathers, together with the splayed wings. I feel you could bring up the exposure on the underwings a touch more, so Ive attached my version. I used a screen blending mode at 40%, and then added back some contrast.
lovely image, quick thinking to capture this one
the pose is nice, and that fan tail is what catches my eye,
THe details are good, i like the way Stuart got the exposure up a bit which really take the image up a notch
very nicely done
Excellent image Holger! I like the fanned tail, details, hovering pose and sharpness.

as it turned out, the low SS worked well here for this hovering pose. There was a little bit of blurring on the bird's right wing (our left), but it conveys some motion. The rest is sharp. Stuart's RP added more color and contrast to the underside. Very nice. Loi
