    Default Long Bill Curlew Hunting

It's been awhile since I got any time for birds. Taken at Ventira, CA beach just before sunset. I believe the species is Long Bill Curlew.

    Cropped a right and bottom.

The rock on the top left hand corner was bright yellow and distracting, so I toned it down.

    Appreciate your comments.

it is a long billed curlew and you captured him with a great pose and sharp details, the food item (small crab?) with sand on it adds more interest. I only wish we could see the feet

Hi Loi, nice behavioural image, agree with Arash about the feet. Good to see you pushing that ISO.

Beautiful capture of this bird with prey. Feet would have been nice, but I'd trade them for the food morsel.

Hi Loi, lovely low angle, and the you captured a good angled pose too. Well timed to get the catch, and I like that he posed is against the smooth part of the BG. Colours, sharpness and detail all there.

Glad to see you like it! I feel I have learned a lot from many of you for the past year, so much appreciate your comments.

Arash and Steve, agreed that it would have been better with feet. I have other images with feet but no food, so like a Grace said, I traded feet for food.

Steve, but i do have room for the virtual feet, so that is an improvement! And you were right, even at ISO-2000, the image looks vey clean.

Great capture of the Long-billed Curlew. Such amazing birds. The sand frames the bottom of the image very nicely, and yes, the food/feet tradeoff is OK. Nice light and sharpness.

Birds seem to know where to place their feet behind a taller piece of oof FG element don't they! Nice catch by the curlew. Nice and sharp, well exposed. Too bad about what appears to be a shadow running behind the bill.

Daniel, You have sharp eyes! I didn't even see the shadow until you pointed out. Thanks. Loi

Nice shot Loi. Good looking detail and exposure on this one. The sandy prey item adds interest and makes the shot special. well done
