    Default Double Crested Cormorant- Portrait

We have been having unfriendly weather for a few weeks now. But the sun was out for a few minutes when I was shooting Pelicans on the cloudy day. I wanted to shoot the Turquoise eye of this species after seeing it on an old post on Artie's Blog.

I think This bird allowed me ample time to get what I was trying to do. Would have liked to have the BG smooth and even. ....may be next time.

5d3+700mm, ISO 500, F 6.5, 1/2000, Selective sharpening to the eye and bird, Cropped tightly to make the eye / bird bigger in frame.
    slight curves.

Hi Amol, I like the comp and the light. I'd suggest cropping the RHS a sliver and apply more sharpening to the head and eye. Not sure where the focus was or how much of a crop, but the details around the eye and neck seem to be lacking. Loi

    Nice image Amol,
i love the exposure you have on the blacks, the head turn is wonderful and the green eye shows well
on focus i feel the head is in foucs since the hook on that beak is sharp as needed so its more due to the texture of the birds feathers on the head and neck which make the illusion of softness.
i may try and blend the BG a bit and reduce the brightness a slight to pop out the bird more .
i like the over all composition.

    Amol:

Nice display of that special eye.

The upper back seems sharper than the head to me.

Def. worth the work to soften the bg a bit more.

    Cheers

Hi Amol, excellent exposure, and just love that eye, and how we can see the end of the bill so well. I would come in from the RHS a touch.

The cormorant looks great, and you certainly got that turquoise eye. I agree with you about the BG, perhaps you could tone down the brighter highlights and/or smoothen some of the harder edges. Although unavoidable at time of capture I would have preferred no shadow on the perch. Love the patterns on the wings.

The bird itself look great but I am not sure why the dark lining on LLHC, making it looks like it was pasted on the BG.
