    Default Ring-Necked Duck

Not sure why they are called Ring-Necked and not Ring-Billed, but that's a questions for another post. We've started to get some of these guys in our local pond, although they are usually relatively far away.

This guy was preening when I took this shot. I like the head turn that he gave me, and I'm not sure this would be a keeper without the back foot showing and the feather falling.

Very heavy crop here, but I think the IQ is acceptable for a 1200 wide post.

This is a terrific shot. The flying feather is killer. Awesome POV as as well.
You can just see the rusty/purply color ring at the base of the neck in this image. In the right light you can see the ring well but I agree they should be called ring billed duck!
I think this needs a hint of CW rotation,

Not sure what amount is a heavy crop here, but whatever it is the IQ is holding up very well. The feather certainly is a neat bonus and adds a lot to the image. The larger pale area at the top edge should Go IMO for a cleaner finish up there.

Thanks for the comments guys. Daniel, I did a bit of cloning to get rid of some of the brighter portions in the water. I've attached the original comp. A big crop, IMO.

Very nice pose and low angle. You should have zero problem cropping even tighter if the intention is posting on the web.

I like the falling feather too

Hi Miguel, If the image was only of the duck, I would have posted it, as you have exposed the detail so well, and the colour of the water rocks. The exposed foot and falling feather just takes this to a whole new level. Well seen, and well captured.

    i just loved it
the IQ is impressive even with the crop , suggests that you nailed it very neatly.
That eye is special, and feather makes this go up lot of notches

I'm with you on the mismatch of the name. This is a great shot. The flying feather makes it IMO and the fact that this guy appears to be looking right at it tells the story
