    Default BCNH w/stacked tc

This is the first black crown night heron I have been able to photograph
in two years. They are out there but not accessible. This one got
close enough that I stacked two 1.4x tc's on the 400mm.

1/250, f/9, ISO 800 added canvas to right and cloned some distractions.
Hope it's not too tight in frame, it is an awkward pose

Glad you found the bird Dave !!!! Excellent quality for stacking I like the pose, open beak and exposure is on the money !! If anything might want a little more room !!! Sweet bg !!!

Nice sharpness and colors, love the pose also.
I mentioned before on a previous post... You are steady as a rock, two 1.4TC with 400, and nice sharpness. (Nice telephoto techniques does not have the same ring to it.)

Good work Dave, sharpness is awesome, open beak, BG is great and I love the perch!

You have to tell us how you stacked 2 x 1.4Xs, Canon or Nikon 1.4xs wont stack without a 12mm tube, are they Sigma or Kenko 1.4Xs???

    thank you for comment Robert.
This is Canon.....1.4 Canon to the lens side(protrusion) and non-reporting Tamron(the cheapest one)
to the body side. EXIF will only show 560mm as the Tamron does not report.
On 1DMkIIN, and I have found this sharper than the Canon 2x on this lens(400mm f/5.6L)

Ah the old Canon and aftermarket TC combo trick, Its a sharp combo judging by your image.

Your 2 x 1.4X technique also gives you more reach than a 2X!

Excellent shot, exposure right on the money and good background - maybe add some canvas on top too?

Hmmh, unless I am missing something, my math would tell me that 1.4 x 1.4 = 1.96 - so the stacked two 1.4x TCs are slightly less than a 2X

correct Dieter, I had it backwards, 784 vs 800mm.

Woah! That's sharp, Dave! Seems to be a very nice combo! I'd take a little off the bottom and add a little to the top. Looks great!

Impressive sharpness for sure! Subject slightly too tightly farmed for my taste but still a great image IMO.

Wow this is super Dave. the BG is very good, and the sharpness OK. I think the only improvement would be to add more room because the birds looks too tight on the composition. Well done

thank you for so much input. Here is a repost(quickly done), removing a bit from bottom, adding to top and right.
Per suggestions, I do feel it looks much better
