    Default Common Redpoll on Goldenrod

    Attached Images Attached Images

Feeder set up, early April in Northern Minnesota, during a past "finch" year. I like the squarish crop here, though I know it will not be everyone's cup of tea :) Full frame top to bottom, trimmed off sides. SonyA300, Sigma50/500 at 420mm, iso400, f9, 1/1000, selective NR to the bg, USM. This handsome chap was having a pick or two at the perch, that's why the stuff by the bill.....Comments and critiques welcome.
    Regards,
    Shawn Zierman.

This is so very beautiful, Shawn. Terrific light, perch and bg. Your DOF is just perfect and the comp works for me. Terrific, Murphyesque shot :)

It's hip to be square. Love it, Shawn. Beautiful richness to this image.

Yes indeed the square crop works very well. Awesome perch, and the redpoll is place perfectly on it. The BG and overall colours are all tied in beautifully. I don't mind the stuff on the bill but I'd look at perhaps taking away the thin strand directly below the bill tip.

Such a great picture of this little beauty, Shawn.
I would see them in the snow or on snow covered branches.
This image shows an other perspective.
Great harmony between the perch, background and bird.

Shawn, This is an awesome Shot. Like everything about it. Sharp bird, Beautiful colors, beautiful perch, and CLEAN smooth BG.

Personally, I am not too sure about the crop but I like it the way you presented too.

I like everything about it but for the 2 1/2 darker vertical bands...

Missed this one earlier. I feel a horizontal crop( with the original canvas on the right hand side.) with the bird a bit left would improve and already appealing shot. Just the old thing about a bird looking "into the shot"
    Lovely image though.
