Well you have all totally outdone me already, amazing photos everyone!!!

Leaving in about 4 hours for our 2 week surgery jaunt....

So here is one, and I will hope to get up another maybe.

This was taken at the Bosque Del Apache in San Antonio, NM last year, 2012.

Very far off, this was the closest my lens would zoom which was 30x Optical.

    Sony Cyber DSC HX 100/V

Handheld, HDR in camera mode, no flash.

Basic PP, I focused on the foliage and such as my Mother loved it.

Then for this theme applied a free texture from XnView, think it was called Bark or Log.

Removed the texture from the bird and some of the tree branches.

    Hope you enjoy!!!

    Linz,

Greetings. The texture has an interesting impact in that it makes the white space, well, less white space (if that makes sense). I think a better balance against the foliage than just a flat sky. A little less texture reduction around the hawk or perhaps some color matching to remove what looks like a halo around the hawk would be good. Thanks for posting.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Linz, this is just gorgeous!! We don't all need a 15 lb lens!

Michael makes a good point about the halo -- should be easy to fix -- when you're recovered.

    Best wishes!!

Linz, beautiful texture work and the halo should be an easy fix. Take care

Very nice Linz! I like the texture and the composition of the base image is very appealing to me.

Love the texture work, Linz. It adds a lot of interest to the negative space and complements the look of the foliage and branches. Halo around hawk has already been mentioned.

What a great choice of texture . . . Not only is it consistent with the trees in the image, but the bluish tones in it work very well with the orange leaves.

Neat texture Linz! I almost wonder about a vertical crop? Not sure as that would remove some of the coloured foliage on the left. Good luck with your surgery! I am pulling for you!

The texture works very well here. Thanks for letting us know where you got it. I like the warm tones and the composition. I think you might have another good image if you cropped heavily. I hope your surgery goes well.
