    Default Classic Etosha

It was splendid to see Etosha's plains and the Etosha Pan under massive clouds and storms. Here is a lone Oryx/Gemsbok standing on the pan (which already has a trace of surface water after the initial rains we witnessed). Toned down the sky with the grad filter in LR to get it looking like I remember it (having exposed for the antelope in-camera).

Really nice PP skills on that sky Morkel, it has turned out well, would have liked a slightly lower perspective to get more sky and a bit less pan, not too big a deal.

Hi Morkel - Very nice classic Etosha scene. Glad you were able to isolate one oryx for the image. That's not always easy to do there. I bet Mr. K says flip it.

The starkness of the shot is very evocative of Etosha Morkel.
I agree with Marc that a slightly lower POV would have been good to increase the amount of sky vs pan floor.
Despite the blue sky the Oryx (gemsbok) doesn't pop as much as I'd expect.

Like this a lot young Morkel, I just wonder if the horizon should be the 50/50 split as it's so close? The placement of the Oryx, soft, muted colours and wispy clouds just work.

Thanks folks! I couldn't really get lower but I also wanted to show the seemingly endless pan so the balance is right for what I wanted to achieve.

    HI Morkel,

very nice image. Love the colors in this one. An Oryx on the plane looks great. Never had that while there. Maybe next time

    Have a great day

    Ciao

Hi Morkel , like this one a lot, great vision of the width in the pan.Combined with a single animal is working fine.
Like the colors in general , not 100 % sure about the reddish in the Oryx and the greenish in the pan, would reduce both by 50% as viewed and see how it looks.
I am fine with the 500 ratio it is all working well together with the placement of the ORYX.

    Well done , Morkel.

Hey Morkel... Love the vastness and starkness of the scene. Comp is a bit unconventional with a fairly even split in FG and sky. I may have even liked a bit more sky to emphasize the dramatic clouds....

Nice simple composition. I think you achieved your stated goal of showing off this habitat. Can almost smell the coming rains.

    thanks everyone

Andreas - the pan had this strange green sheen to the eyes as well, I remember asking my wife if there's grass on the pan (which there wasn't) so will leave that as is.

Unconventional is what I often strive for, Dale . I have some "zoomed out" which may have more sky in - will have a look.

Hi Morkel, love the simplicity of the scene and the distant rainfall adds a nice element to the skies...might work as B&W too

Agree with Andrew and was wondering when someone would suggest it. Think it would be a great B&W. I would also like the oryx slightly more into the frame but that's just me.
