Another B/W with a hint of original color experiment, wonder if this is working for the critical eyes of you guys, let your honest thoughts flow.
Inspired by somebody who appears from time to time in here, hello Mr D.
I did not want to copy, and i think it is not possible just simply copying a style , by not knowing which tools are used………………… just did it my style.
I am pretty sure that some folks , i know who ,will say too contrasty , specially in the darks, but i like it that way.

    Image taken in Etosha.

    EOS 1D MK IV
    EF 500 IS L
    Window bracket
    F 8 ; ISO 250 ; 1/640 sec

Processed in RPP , PS CC with B/W conversion and several curves with masks /blend modes. Slightly cropped from all around. Cloned out some stuff in FG and BKG.

    C&C most welcome , as always .

    Cheers Andreas

I like the foot in the air and curled trunk here Andreas, but for mine I'd like more room all round, not too keen on semi B&W conversions I must say,
nothing wrong with experimentation and letting the creative juices flow.

Hi Andreas, it's not really working for me and sadly I'm not sure why? Although I like the conversion.

Hi Andreas - nice texture and toning in the ele itself. What I don't think is working as well for me is the high contrast of the ele against the bg that is devoid of contrast and color. I too would prefer more room all around, especially below. Keep experimenting and using us as your guinea pigs. We all learn from these types of threads.

Thanks folks for your honest feedback,
so my question is , would a partly darker BKG work better ?
I have a bit more room all around in the master file, so if you say go darker in BG and a bit wider , this is going to Steve and Rachel , i will make an RP .

    Thanks again Andreas

Andreas - I haven't played around with the image but I think that might work. Give it a try and see what you think.

Funnily enough it's not too tight for me - framing works for me. I also like the texture and toning but would make it all-monochrome perhaps with a coffee tint?

    Thanks Morkel for your comment.
For the others a wider framing with a slightly darkened BKG.Left the Springbok in on RHS.I think for being a important part of the image the bokkie is too small and placement is not ideal.

    Hi Andreas,

late to the party. The OP I do not like, the RP is better. Lots has been said. With the BG, I might would darken it a bit more.

    Have a great day

    Ciao

Not a huge fan of B/W images but I like your RP with the slightly bluish-gray toned water in the BG.

Yes, RP is better for me too. I think this is an image of a majestic bull but when he's not looking his best. Imagine this effect with the bull coming towards you, and I think it would be amazing.... It's a good processing idea though and I quite like it.

    Hi Adreas

I really like your original post , crop is good just a slight rotation to align foot with ground, other suggestions , take the brownish colour out of foreground , keep it neutral/ off white . Lighten the black marks above the Elephant head ...
High contrast is good in an image but just remember to have resting mid tone area for the eye to rest on...
Experimentation is the road to success Andreas .. So glad I had a small part to play ...

I know how difficult it is to photograph these elephants at this waterhole with the harsh light off a very reflective surface,
it is equally difficult to come up with a different image than everybody else so I applaud you for your brave action to try something different and put it " out there" for all to see ...

    Keep up the good work
