Default Theme: From a By-Gone Era

Time to get the texture theme rolling! I photographed this skull at Red Apple Farm, which is not too far away from where I live. I was there doing a farmers' market for the farm I work for, and naturally I always have my camera along.

I processed this using Silver Efex Pro, and then for textures I added four Shadowhouse Creation textures and a tintype texture that I had in my archives.

This has great textures two ways -- in the photo and in your processing. The lighting is really interesting. It not only helps to reveal the textures in the skull and siding, but it looks like the neck and shoulder of the animal. As always, you achieved a wonderful aged look.

Christopher, You're the perfect one to start the texture theme! This skull looks like it still has an attitude...maybe it is that neck-like shadow! I really like those long scratches on the left side and of course, the overall aged look.

Hi, Christopher, I was wondering if you would start the theme off on a good note Beautifully done.

Nice base image of the skull, and excellent choice of textures. It does look like an old photo.

You are the Master! The strong side-lighting of the base image sets the scene for the textures to play very nicely in the shadows. Your usual excellent job at creating the aged look. Love the textures!

You do a great job with making photos look old fashioned. Lots of interesting textures, in base image and texture. My preference would be for a bit more contrast and brightness. As always, nice work.

Thanks a lot, everyone. Much appreciated! Anita, I experimented with a little more contrast but decided to go with the more faded look personally.

Great series of textures going on here. The skull, the wall, and the added textures. You certainly have mastered the old photo genre Christopher.

Extremely intricate work, as always well done..... I would love if the eye on the right was a bit more defined.

I love cow skulls and this is a perfect texture. Linz has a good point about the eye -- I'd extend that to the whole shadowed side f the face. Just a little more contrast to the skull itself and maybe mask off the texture there a little.
