Another image from the Giants Castle hide. I tried something different here: a close-up of a juvenile bird flying directly towards me. The AF coped well, despite the addition of the 2x converter. Total crop about 50%, but the image quality of the MK III makes it possible, even at 640 ISO (me thinks).

Camera Model: Canon EOS-1D Mark III
    Date/Time: 2008:05:08 09:01:38
    Shutter speed: 1/1000 sec
    Aperture: 9
    Exposure mode: Av
    Exposure compensation: +1/3
    Flash: Off
    Metering mode: Multi-segment
    ISO: 640
    Focal length: 1000mm

Me thinks you've got another sensational photo here Chris. This morning I already added Ecuador to my list of places I have to get to. Now it looks like South Africa is going on the list too!

Hi Chris.......I'll echo all the above coments...but would have preferred a little more space to either side to offset the composition.....personal preference though.love that stare!

    What a cool perspective Chris.

BTW - you are rapidly becoming my favorite bird photographer on BPN. I always look forward to your stunning work!

Not sure what I feel about the hints of green in the background but who really cares. I like this a lot. Always look forward to your posts.

I stared at this for some time before coming up with one critique - I think your sig should be a little lower on the left.

Seriously, another fabulous image, Chris. I immediately thought "look who's coming to dinner."

Incredible image, Chris! The intense stare and dead center composition make this image very strong.

Hard light but, wow, what an impressive result! The eye contact is killer and the sharpness is too good to be true. Excelent composition and excelent performance of the 2X converter BTW.
