The only special with this woodpecker, called grongoling in Swedish, is maybe the double light, there is some backlit from a mirror - an idea Bence M. in Hungary had. It's a rather rare species of woodpecker, and the portrait is perhaps not the usual one. But I may have put it in the wrong thread here. I am not totally happy with the background, but I'll think this or one of some look-a-likes will go into my next book. It's a bird I love though.

Hi Brutus! This is definitely "Out of the Box"! Incredible sharpness and the double light is quite amazing!

I like the feeling of "lost in the storm" that he conveys, very nice image.

Wonderful detail... Great angle and light as mentioned above.

Brutus... Are you in a hide taking this and some others like that crazy jay?

    Amazing imagery!

Both these are being photographed from hides. Bence Mate has built ten + hides in Hungary, which you can rent. And you can experiment and do different things - therefor I often prefer to go to hides so I can be there myself. I have a feeling some other photographers would think I am crazy - which is probably right.
