I love tanagers and the smaller the better!
This guy is extremely small (4'') and besides that is quite active so some times I believe I am shooting a warbler!
A fruit and insect lover, is not so difficult to lure this one to a good feeder, they don't respond well to bird calls so it's better to study your subject before you depart to take pictures of it.

    For this one

Mark IV+600Mark I+1.4TC+ISO 1000+SS1/125+f/8+tripod+fill flash+ when you are close to your lens minimun focusing distance stop down one of two extra stops to get things more in focus if you can afford the low shutter speed :( this is a luxury in the dim rain forests throughout Latin America!

As always, your valuable comments and suggestions for improving are most welcome. :)

Beautiful colors, nice head turn and eye contact and a perfect composition, Juan.

Great bird and perch! Perfect head angle and the comp is tasteful. Only thing I can suggest is to darken the leaf at left edge and the other neat centre of perch...and if you are OK with it cloning out the top third of the leaf that is touching the subject. Other than that this is a fantastic image.

WOW this is sweet, such great detail and texture. Might apply a luminosity mask to drop the light patches of green a touch.

What a great bird. I am glad you told us how small he is in real life. I would have assumed he was much larger.
Love the perch and the pose.
    Great IQ.
If you are not anti- cloning I would remove some of the plant that is touching the bird's belly. I love the curves on the leaf on LHS,
    Gail

If this were my image I'd be extremely happy because I only have one photo of the species from great distance. But I wonder if the image would be even more perfect if the light from the top was a little less strong. The highlight on the top of the bill especially would bother me a tiny bit.

Ok here's a repost with some cloning done. I still have to work on the bright beak and leaves, I applyed NR on BG, I forgot to mention that this is the FF. Many thanks to all for your kind comments. :)

This is exceptional Juan. Oh how I remember seeing these for the first time along the beach path in Matapalo, Osa.
