    Default Walrus

So I'm making one of my rare forays into OOTB. I was inspired by one of Denise Ippolito's blog posts to experiment with a threshold adjustment on some of my silhouetted images from Svalbard. In this one I didn't want to lose the splash.

Hi, Rachel, I love your forays This is a great look - silhouette but also a graphic look almost like a woodblock print. I think I would crop a very tiny bit from the bottom to eliminate the little black triangle on the left hand corner and the diagonal drops in the right hand corner. It's great the way it is but I found those two corners to be a little distracting.

This is terrific. It's wonderful that the walrus isn't totally black. I really like the lighter tones along its head and back. The two bottom corners don't bother me, at all, and I probably wouldn't have even thought about cropping some off the bottom if Cheryl hadn't mentioned it. The composition is great, but taking a small amount of the bottom would make it even better, I think. However, when it's this good already . . .

Thanks Cheryl and Dennis. I'm glad you like this. The crop from the bottom is a great suggestion. I hadn't noticed those areas at the bottom but now they bother me. Dennis - the lighter areas on the body are from the backlight.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Good to have you here, Rachel! Great silhouette with the head at just the right angle to see both tusks and to catch highlights on the whiskers. The water drops running across his body adds great action. I wonder if you don't have too much white in front of the walrus. My thought would be to crop some of that away to place more emphasis on the head and splashing water. It also would add to the feeling of massiveness of the animal.

Interesting, obviously quite graphic and dramatic. Kudos to Cheryl for her excellent crop suggestion.

Late here. Instead of cropping the bottom, those two areas in the corners would be easy to clone. Some off the left is something to try.

The information may not be there, but I'd love to see a hint of the eye.

The dark waves in the BG give me the impression of the "horizon" not being level, but that's a small point on such a graphic image and most people wouldn't interpret it that way.

    Lovely and unique image!
