Here is another shot of the same lion cub as my previous post.
He is facing the camera which is a plus but he does not have his head on the rock which is why I went for the other shot initially.

    Hi Martin

Better HA and processed than previous image!
Cub not oversharpened in my books.
Would still reduce sat cub, especially on head.
FG fine for 7.1, would ease off blurring BG to a line round about top of ears.
    Cheers

    Hi Martin,

like the little chap. For me it looks a tad to sharp. I also would not sharpen the ground around the lion. Only the lion. Might be wrong, but would be selective. Just IMHO

    Have a great eve

Hi Martin, what a cutie...I like this one better due to the improved head angle and I also agree with Anette that I would only sharpen the Lion and perhaps the rock. Nice one!

Hi Martin - Sorry, I was tied up all day so a bit late to this one. I also like this one better though I understand your point about the head on the rock. I agree that it is bordering on oversharpened and would back off on the sharpening slightly, more so on the back and hindquarters. Color also looks better to me here but I agree with Andre and would slightly reduce the sat on the cub. Overall though the IQ here looks good.

    Rachel

Hi Martin, I also feel this is better, however I do understand why you like the previous posting.

I'm not saying it's improved the composition, but I feel I want to have more space below rather than above, if you have it, then I would experiment in moving the whole crop down, but the balance as presented isn't quite working for me, the subject is just too close to the foot of the image. Regarding the sharpening I think it looks OK, however the colour is too saturated I feel. Obviously it can be a fine balance at times, but pulling back the yellow, black and some saturation gets closer I feel, like wise adding around +6 of brightness. I combined two images, your OP at 65%, then my tweaked cub & rock. For me there is more detail, albeit subtle that has come through in the cub & rock, likewise the whites look cleaner without the cast in them. Hopefully the attached will illustrate the points.

When did you last calibrate your monitor? Is it always in the same location, do you work with the lights on or off, is the monitor being lit from behind by a window. There are a lot of factors Martin which may contribute, but most of them very easily resolved.

PS I very quickly picked up the dung for you.

Many thanks, Andre, Anette, Rachel, Andrew & Steve.
Comments all appreciated. Unfortunately on this image I have no space to recover at the bottom - I too wish there was some.
As you sat Steve, saturation and colours are a fine balance. I try to get it to somewhere how I remember seeing it originally but I know that my memory is imperfect and that I am probably settling for what I would like it to have
    looked like.
On my monitor your re-post looks a little too pale Steve. I have re-calibrated my monitor this morning (last time was 2 months ago) and everything looks cooler than it did before. I now worry that I will add saturation to compensate.

    Hi Martin,

on my screen the RP from Steve does not look pale. The lion looks like it is in nature! Maybe that helps a bit.

Well, why not post or fire it off, we can all have a look. Personally, I would calibrate say every month, or when you system (calibration) tells you, obviously depending on how long your monitor is on for & the hours used.

I now worry that I will add saturation to compensate.
You may need too if it's calibrated now because monitors will drift off, also as I said earlier, depends on the location and if you keep moving it, this is why, in an ideal world, you have it in the same constant environment.

    Hi Martin,
Like this post better for the most part compared to the previous , a step in the right direction.

Agree about the crop , a bit too tight on bottom and too much "dead" space on top.
Like the relaxed look of the cub with guarding leg on the rock.I think the OP is a tad too warm in WB,i think Steve has got a fix for this, so i think his RP is not looking pale or flat .
Keep working on your calibration problem and your pp skills and you will become better and better, trust me.

    TFS Andreas
