White tail deer are usually very hard to get close to in Saskatchewan due to hunting, so I was lucky to get close enough to use my 70-200mm.

    Canon 60D,70-200L, ISO 300,200mm,f5.0, 1/500sec

    60% crop with LR adjustments.

    CC very welcome.

Edit: I have not figured out how to upload a picture that is as sharp as it looks on my computer.....

    Dear Leigh,

Thank you for sharing this cute image of White Tail Deer, a special sighting indeed! Just a small observation if I may: I understand you did a 60% crop, obviously to get closer to the subject-when one looks at an image, although not the whole body of the subject is visible, one needs to "see" the virtual body and legs of the subject. Was the deer sitting on the ground? It just seems to me that you did not allow enough space for the viewer to at least guess where the rest of the deer is, in the picture. Regarding sharpening, I too sharpen in LR but once the basic adjustments are done I move my image to Photoshop CS6 where I do further adjustments and then resize - this is when one needs to sharpen the image again before posting, and I guess where your problem comes from.

Looking forward to more posts from you!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

    Kind regards,
If you look closely you can see the outline of the body through the straw, it was lying down and when I approached it and whistled this was the response I got. I have some others with the full body that might have been better, but I liked the tongue

as for the sharpening, when I upload to flickr the picture is very sharp in Lightbox (I think its lightbox) and then when I view it in the "View all sizes" there is a very big difference in sharpness.

Same thing happens with this picture, after resizing following a tutorial I found on here the picture looks very sharp but small on my computer, once I upload it to the website it looks dull.

Thanks you for your kind response!

EDIT: now that I go back to LR and move the picture to PS, the picture lost sharpness in PS.

    Hello again Leigh!

Thank you for your reply, please take a look at the sticky "save for web" by Steve Kaluski and "sharpening actions-free" by Morkel Erasmus-you might find some valuable information there regarding your final steps in processing.
I now understand your reasons for cropping this way and I do see the outline of the little one's body, it's just that somehow he seems a bit "lost" for me in that field (perhaps you wanted to achieve that effect, but the image overall does not convey the message strong enough, to me). He is indeed very cute and I would not have resisted taking a photo of him let us see some more images of this cutie-pie, never mind the tongue, would love to see what he looks like

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

    Kind regards,

Sounds good, I'll edit a few more pictures of her and try those tutorials you speak of and see if I can have a bit better success.

EDIT: nope, still can't get them to look as good as they do on the computer or flickr's lightbox

Skittish around my area year round so nice to see a pic of something other than a raised tail bounding away. Assuming you wanted the focus of the shot to be on the tongue, I don't think it's a tight enough shot (realizing you already cropped a lot.) Maybe a wider view to show how well they blend into their environment?
