    Default Mandarin Duck

With the 500 out to Nikon for CLA, I've got a lot more time to catch up on editing! Here's one from a month back of a Mandarin Duck at the local Biopark pond.

Would have loved to have seen the other wing peek through, but I'll take the water droplets here. Shot in DX mode to get the 6 fps (D800 + grip + D4 battery).

    Shooting info:
    Nikon D800 | 500 f/4 VR
    1/5000" | f/6.3 | ISO 800

    Hi Miguel,
    This is really nice.
How can one fail to be impressed by the wonderful plumage of this awesome drake. The iridescence is well shown.
The water droplets, the wing position and that slight head turn towards you are great. I also love the well in the water behind the duck.
    IQ is excellent.
I see a smudgy area to the right and above the wingtip. If this is a natural aberration I am fine with it but if they are cloning marks I would tidy the area up a bit.
Great shot and one I wish I had in my files,
    Gail

Thanks for the comments Gail. I also noticed the smudgy area, but no cloning was done to this image, so it was just part of the natural aberration. I thought about cleaning it up, but decided to leave it to see if anyone would notice. Your eye certainly did, so it may be time to take a crack at smoothing it out.

Love that water drop action! You could not have asked for a better wing position on that near one. Good comp. As for those aberrations, it is worth a crack at it even though they were there naturally.

Killer wing position and sharpness. Love the color of the water and the colors on the duck. Whites could use a bit more detail. May we assume that this is a captive bird?

I'll take a crack at the aberrations.

And yes Artie, I should have mentioned it, this bird is captive to the Biopark (not behind a fence or anything, but I believe that he can't fly)
