Holger, I love the herons and Egrets but unfortunately, I have never seen one on of these. What a great colorful bird. I like the landing pose and nice light under the wings. The b/g is very nice. The reeds are also nice, I would prefer a little mere clearance form the reeds, but a very attractive sot.

Beautiful image showing the environment. The nesting material in the beak is nice.

Hi Holger, I didnt realise you had Purple herons in Germany, I thought they only belonged in Africa. Colours spot on, and thats a long piece of nesting material. Did you manage to get a shot with the heron higher over the top of the grasses.

    Hi Stuart.
in "my" nature reserve the heron brood every year. is one of the biggest population in germany. In this year we have over 25 breeding pairs. Every year they brood deep in the reed. But in this spring they brood at the reed edge. It was fantastic.I have make over 4000 images. I'll look for one where he is flying over the reeds

Lovely one, the pose is perfect
We get the purples in India, but they never tend to give such pretty poses
I am not yet very good at PP but if i could i will try removing the dark stick , will take the image up the top

I thought they only had purple herons in Africa. I have learned something new.
This is a very dynamic, interesting pose.
I like the inclusion of the environment on the left.
At first glance, I thought the dark stick (nesting material) was just another dark reed and thought that this was very distracting. But closer examination reveals that the stick is in his beak. So although the stick is a good thing to see in the image it attracts attention for the wrong reasons. I wonder if you selectively dodged or brightened the stick if it would help. Might be worth a try.
I am happy that the heron is sharp despite your low SS.
Looking forward to more from this nesting site,
    Gail

A very dynamic pose you got here, almost like it is scrambling not to crash into something! I agree that more clearance form the reeds would have been nice, but I like that inclusion of habitat so I am OK with it. To bad it had to choose such a dark stick though! There is one stem I would remove...the long one along the edge in upper left corner.

Nice pose and species. I too thought the stick was in the way until I saw it was in its beak. Well done.
