    hawfinch at pool( Male)
Just worked it out- including the small branch 118 inches abouve the pool I have had 42 species in 1 cubic metre of space betweenJanuary and August this year. Not bad for a journey of 150 yards (there and back )
Amazing how the water colour can change in seconds and only last for seconds.

    Hi John,
I think you could easily charge admission to your little pool!! And I would be the first inline
I like this image. The colors are really unusual.
The finch looks great but I find him a bit big in the frame. The feather detail in the finch are superb. Love the water drop on the beak. The HA police are loving this one.
I don't like what is going on in the ground directly behind the tail. It looks like some cloning work was done there but it could be just the debris on the ground. In any case I would smooth/clean that area up.

PS I know I said I find the finch big in the frame but I just did a browser scroll on the image removing the dark band at the top, thus making the crop more of a panorama and I like it!

    Another fantastic shot Johnny.
This is a species I would love to see but have never been able to find. The detail in the bird is excellent. I find the water a tiny bit bright.
I agree with Gail's last comment about maybe taking a little off the top and maybe even a tiny bit off the bottom.

    Points taken . Thanks.
Gail No cloning but I too hate the area around the tail. I had a load of better ones but with a less appealing head angle. Its such an exitment when one of these turn up there is not a lot of time to think !! I could have racked out to get a bit more DOF but didn't have the time. They don,t stop long !!
Thanks for your interest both .
    Cheers

Johnny, I much prefer the OP. I think the colours look better and I love the oily texture of the water. Your repost looks very brown and there is a nasty bright white spot at the end of the tail.

Spectacular image of beautiful bird with lovely colors. I like the water colors are nicely complimenting with his colors.
Love the head turn, fine details and composition.

    Regards,
    Satish.

Hi Johnny, super pose and HA, and just love the colours on the finch. Interesting texture to the water. Im finding the colours in the water directly behind the head 'clashing' with the colours of the finch. I would have preferred the texture all in grey. My last point is mainly a personal one, as no one else has mentioned it.

Beautiful bird and image Johnny, well done. I too would get really excited at seeing this bird and totally understand what you are saying in terms of not having enough time :)

    Thanks all.
Joe- not in the garden but not far off- about 80 yards away. Thats a long walk for me to photograph a bird these days I can sit there for hours and very little field craft needed
    Cheers
