She looks very anxious but I suppose I would be as well, sitting in the middle of the road. I like her curled tail but I think you will struggle to getting enough IQ out of this with the ISO and ss you used. There appears to be quite a dark shadow in the bottom rhs corner, perhaps from a vehicle, but it is a little distracting.
Despite the image technical difficulties I like the attitude of the lioness.
Hilary,
Yes, that dark corner is the the side of the vehicle. I could easily clone it out, but your concern about IQ is shared. I ran Dfine and a little Tonal Contrast, but not much else other than lighten the eyes just a little.
She was really staring at us. Someone made a slight move and she suddenly got very alert. So did most of us in the vehicle.

A very different presentation of a lioness-in-Africa image. Her stare and pose looks like she is a tightly coiled spring! I like that the bkgd is entirely the sandy road, with no other visual elements, and that all the tracks are on the diagonal. This creates an interesting low key graphic as a backdrop to the potential energy of the lioness. If you have it, a little more room behind her tail would be nice. Amazing ISO value!
This is a very interesting image and great that you got such quality at ISO 6400! I too like the sandy road diagonals and the very alert (but not scared) pose of the lioness. I wouldn't change anything except losing the blob from the corner and a bit more space behind.

Hi Douglas, at 1/40 coupled with the high ISO I think you did well.
If this is not FF then including a bit more to the RHS would help, however the space top & bottom space seems balanced and I like the way she is angled to the tyre tracks. Personally I would ease back on the contrast and tweak the whites and a little shadow, not much. it seems then to open up the detail more and coupled with some selective sharpening brings the image up nicely.

Post Production: It’s ALL about what you do with the tools and not, which brand of tool you use.
Hi Douglas - I like the intensity of her look and the eye contact. Those paws look huge too. I agree that you did well given the slow ss and high ISO. I would prefer a bit more room to the rhs if you have it.
TFS,
Rachel
There is a bit more room on the rhs, but I'll need to clone out an OOF corner of the vehicle. As the sun went down, I switched to Tv at 1/40s and set the ISO to 6400. These four females were the first lions we saw on the tour, so everyone was pretty excited.

Here's my attempt to give a little more room on the right and to clone out the OOF dark area. I'm not satisfied with the cloning, but I think the comp is now better. PP: graduated filter in Bridge to increase exposure and fill shadow, used clone tool in PS to finish.

Hi Douglas, lots has been said above which I would just say the same here and there. I just jump to your RP. Agree with your cloning, might could be done better. Did you try the content aware ? That does sometimes a god job in cloning.
Personally I think she looks now a tad harsh, maybe it is also the color boost she got compared with the OP. I would prefer than something like Between OP & RP .
Have a great weekend
Ciao

Anette,
Regarding the corner, I started with a graduated +exposure in Bridge and then with the clone stamp brush tried to extend in the tracks. Mode was set to normal. I'd certainly welcome suggestions.
When you mention Current Aware, are you referring to CA setting with the Patch tool, or the CA Move tool.
