This was one of my California target birds, and a lifer for me. I thought I was going to miss them, but as we were passing through Moss Landing on our last day, we stopped by the harbor shortly after sunrise, walked out to the end of a pier, and found a few flying around. I got a few closer blue-sky shots, but liked the BG better on this one. C&C always appreciated.

Second that ! Just enough background detail to make it "real".
    Like it.

Lovely pose, light and BG, Bill. I am seeing a slight yellow cast on your bird.

Thanks Marina. It does seem a bit yellowish. I attributed that to the early morning sunlight. And Sibley shows a yellowish-pink tint to the breast. My other shots of the species, taken about the same time, show this as well. But I'll take a look at reducing the yellow a bit.

Marina, the more I looked at this, the more yellow it became. More than just a slight cast, maybe. Here, I pushed the color balance slider +12 to the right (blue). It still retains the peachy color on the breast, and the morning light, with some of the yellow removed. I might have gone further. Thanks for the tip.

I'm so bad at picking up color casts but the repost looks nice. I like the wing position and water droplets. You did well in CA!

The RP is much better IMO. You can really notice on the bill as it was slightly over-saturated in the OP

Rest has been commented already. Lovely shot and BG
