Hi, I have the same camera/ lens system and I know how difficult it can be to get a crisp focus like this, so good job! What focal length was this taken at? The reflection in the eye really pops! I think the composition may be too obviously symmetrical, with the bill-tip right in the horizontal center. I suggest relaxing the composition a bit, to give it a more natural feel.

I love it, John. Sharp, well exposed, and very painterly.

Sweet use of depth of field to provide so much detail. The colors in the water look natural.

JR, you sure are getting some great shots at your watering hole setup. The feather detail and colors are fantastic and I really like the water color too. Very nice, again.

Lovely shot fine detail and a wonderful full reflection, I will have to see what I can get in my pond, I have not used it for bird photography yet.

Thanks all . It might be worth mentioning that the pool is a mere1 metre across so you don't need a lake to do this sort of stuff. Just somewhere where there is not much else in the way of water.

A Chaffinch is a beautiful bird!! Well executed shot in a lovely environment. If I had to nitpick it would be to sharpen the beak a bit more as it seems to have fallen out of the focus plan slightly

Other than that good work and thanks for sharing ;)

Good sharp details, soft light and colours of this delightful little bird which is greatly enhanced by being in the drink Johnny.
