Default Big Horn Sheep in B/W

    Hi folks,
thought devil is looking at me when i was producing this image .Was not planned to become a B/W. More an accident, used a green channel for pushing the contrast, and then i thought , ok , half way there , go further.

Like to know your honest thoughts about this accident.

Image created with 1D MK IV ; EF 100-400 IS L; HH at 210 mm

    ISO 1600 ; F 5,6 should have been 8 or 11 for more DOF; 1/400 sec

All done in PS , no fancy NIK etc

    Cheers Andreas

    Hi Andreas,

the conversion looks very nice to me. The eye has a stainless steel look to me, shining like real stainless steel, looks great. Love the little grass stick coming out of it's mouth. This might would come more out if the nose & mouth would be a bit sharper, but we cannot have everything. The details & sharpness are great.
Is this FF? Did you crop from the top?

    Have a great eve

    Ciao
    Anette

Nice conversion and agree a bit more DOF would be nice. Very sharp (the 100-400 is always underestimated in this regard) and love the eye and that 'tooth-pick' in his mouth!

Something new, something different Andreas, I like it! A chilling look indeed, but there's something humorous about this image-must be the "tooth-pick"! Well processed, to me the OOF body makes the face stand out, love the crop, very well done, congratulations!!!

    Kind regards,

    Thanks folks,
for leaving your thoughts in my thread .
Anette - sadly no room on top , cropped a bit from RHS and LHS.
Sanjeev - i think at web size we cannot tell about lens quality, honestly.
Gabriela - thanks for your kind words

    Appreciate all of them .

    Cheers Andreas

    Hi Andreas

I really like this. It stands out. Very graphic and shows how strong a tight composition can be.

That little grass straw is a funny contrast to rest of the picture.

Hi Andreas - nice to see you experimenting a bit. The gritty conversion works and I like the comp, though I would like a touch more of the curve of the horn at the top but understand you don't have it. The grass adds to the image.

This is fantastic - love it. That eye just keeps drawing me in. The only thing that distracts me is the body fur behind (to the right of) the eye. Not sure why but it looks a bit like it's been blurred. I don't think you did blur it but it just looks a little out of place with the rest of the image. But it's still a great image and the crop is fine for me - I don't miss the top of the horns.

I like!! Agree with Edward on the "blurry" bit behind the eye and with Rachel on wanting just a bit more curved horn in the frame. But the contrast and gritty look work very well - proof that there's no real recipe for what works best in monochrome - experimentation is key!

Thanks Gregor,Rachel,Edward and Morkel appreciate your comments a lot.

No blurring applied , think it happened accidentally like this whole processing .

    Hi Andreas

I like what you have with the image, crop and conversion… If you really want too… U could go take the image even further by lightening/dodging darkening/burning around the face … will give it more depth and contrast .. and a more sinister look

Thanks Peter appreciate YOUR comment, goal was to emphasize the face area and not that much the body, so thats why i darkened the rest and not giving it more contrast, when i try next time , i will hopefully remember.

    Cheers Andreas
