    Default Black-lit Guanaco

The original backlit Guanaco image was created in Torres del Paine National Park on my recent trip to Chilean Patagonia. I used the Gitzo 3532 LS carbon fiber tripod, the Mongoose M3.6 head, the Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM lens, the Canon 1.4x EF Extender III (Teleconverter), and the Canon EOS-1D X. ISO 200. Evaluative metering -1 stop: 1/3200 sec. at f/9 in Av mode.

Central sensor Surround/AI Servo/Rear Focus AF on the rim light and re-compose. Click here to see the latest version of the Rear Focus Tutorial.

    Hi Arthur,

This is certainly a piece of art and I like the idea, and your tutorial on how you did it. I would prefer to see the halo in a more natural colour and actually I also like the Original RAW as shown on your website....

Hi Artie - Always nice to see you posting a wildlife shot. I too enjoyed the tutorial. I tried this with some reindeer shots in Svalbard. Getting it just right can be tricky and I had not thought about raising the saturation to alter the rim lighting color. Definitely creates another option. The eyelashes are great!

Love everything about this back-lit, except would wish for a more natural rim-light colour, understand this is a personal preference, and yes Artie have been a rear AF button guy for over a decade now, could never go back to the old system.

Yip, very creative and interesting tutorial, but would prefer a more natural looking back lit image...

This is so original and also great fun, Sir Arthur-shows your playful nature as well as knowledge in terms of photography techiques-I am very taken with this image of yours-certainly a winner as far as I am concerned, inspiring "out-of-the-box" thinking and it makes me feel like a little mouse when I think of what I have achieved so far with my photography...

    Kind regards,

Nice one Artie, and thanks for the tutorial.
I too prefer a more "neutral" rim-lit look, but that's just personal taste eh?

I like the color and the whole idea.
I would like to see it all red, the white lit highlights would look better for me if they matched.
