The muddy feet and splashing take this one over the top.

    Bill:

Neat action, pose. Mud adds to the story.

The head looks soft to me.

    Cheers

Had the face been sharp this would have been a killer image as the pose, light, comp, and muddy feet all provide for some appealing stuff.

Thanks guys. Yes, I agree. I think the focus point must have been on the wings. If I try to sharpen the head any more it becomes more crunchy.

Love the near underwing detail. The waves are a bit distracting for me. The open bill and raised muddy foot add.

Hi Bill, great pose with the raised wings, and the show of the muddy left leg. Head mentioned already, but the underwing detail does show up nicely.

Thanks everyone. I've gone back and tried again on the head. Using a layer of head, neck and far wing, I tried a round of USM with 1.0 radius at 50%, rather than my usual 0.3 radius. It looks sharper, and to my eye not too crunchy. I've also tried to remove the distracting wave on the left, and sharpened up the mud splash. Perhaps someone with sharper eyes than mine can tell me if this looks better. ( I did the wave removal rather quickly, so I'm sure there are some clone repeat marks if one looks too carefully.)

Love the pose and the light, Bill. The head needs a little more sharpening.

Thanks Karl. Do you think the head in the repost still needs more sharpening, or were you referring to the OP?
