Black Rhino on patrol. Here he shows typical behaviour of wanting to investigate what is the intruding on his area. Love these guys mainly due to their bold behaviour.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I did some clone work on the BG on LHS where horizon meets the skyline as well as some on immediate FG.

    Let's hope it wasn't a poacher?

Like the action depicted here Carl, with the raised front leg, nice light and good detail with 2 x tc. I'm seeing a slight magenta cast throughout the image, easily fixed of course.

The raised front leg is excellent here, Carl.

Would agree with Mark on the colour cast, the white dropper in LR will help there, though you may have to drop the greens on the grass at the same time.

Yes, rhino looks a little purple and the grass a bit too bright to me, but easily fixed and then there's a nice shot in natural environment.

Hi Carl - very nice look at this fellow. Nice walking pose and pov. I agree about the color issues in both magenta and green.

    Hi Carl

You have the makings of a lovely image, I agree with the previous posts about color cast and over saturated greens. Just keep an eye on the sharpening I think there maybe a slight halo around the back of subject.

Hi Carl, the RP looks better although I'm using the laptop so will run with the thoughts of others. Was the grass that green, or have you adjusted it in HSL? If so, I might revert back to as shot for this.

The Rhino looks very dainty based on the the posture and looks very nibble making it's walks through the small bushes. I do like the 3/4 POV too. Glad you mention the retouching, think there was some along the back & rear, just need to take care with masking. Nothing you could do, but never a lover of horizons running through heads & bodies.

FYI I'm glad you did not mention the location area, we tend to have an unwritten rule not to disclose areas where animals are in danger, thanks.

Hi Steve, The grass is similar as it is a flush after recent rains on the burns. Initially in LR I used WB auto and fiddled with the HSL. When I took it back before RP I used the WB picker to get it as close to the 50/50/50 as I could He was actually trotting in our direction although the stride does not really portray this.

I try to remember that thanks.

Hi Carl, personally I think it helps when trying to get the overall colour balance right, however it's the starting point to build on and may require further 'tweaks' in selective areas to refine the image more.

I would explore PS when you are next with A&G as it will be a great asset to you in the future, but it all takes time.

Disclosure - it's just something that has evolved and something we try to implement with the agreement of members, every little helps, as they say.

    Hi Carl

    Here is my take:
The masking was done roughly, excuse any halos

    Straightened horizon.
Masked Sat layer, remember to change blending mode, greens -100%
Masked Selective colour layer Neutrals +5, blacks -5
Masked contrast layer- contrast only +15
Invert mask- replace colour sky- sat +37, lightness -7
    NR on BG
Lumi mask to open mouth(only mouth)
Exp layer only on eye- exp 1,27 gamma 1.03
Selective sharpening- head- brush 100%, body- 60%
    WDYT?
    Regards

    Andre.

    Hi Carl,
like the Rhino ballerina walking through the bush.
This massive animal looks kind of very elegant in this frame. It is really worth it to invest some work.
Not much you can do about the horizon, the issues here are the colors mostly.

All three versions are having strong color casts tending very much into the blue side , with different hues .
So as Steve said get the base color (WB) right , from there it is easier to get all the other stuff , nicely done, easy to say from here…….LOL:Think when you get the WB half way right the grass will look better , too.

    TFS Andreas

Carl, lovely pose and setting for this old boy! Colour casts noted, even your RP doesn't look "cricket", but Andre's looks most natural to my eye. I agree on the halo along his back and butt - perhaps selection issues or just sharpening overcooked and not carefully selected?

I agree with Steve, worth checking out PS (and thanks for not blurting out the location, although I can probably guess with accuracy).
