Nice action between the elephants Peter. You have done a good job of making them stand out against the background too.
I really don't like that line of fuzzy trees though, I find it really distracting.

That is why the trees are fuzzy Martin… OOF due DOF … nothing else…

Hi Peter - This one works quite well for me. Nice low pov and the eles cooperated with their angle. The detail on the eles is good as well. There seems to be a halo along the edge of the eles in places, most obvious on the front of the legs and going up the chests to the heads.

    TFS,
    Rachel

    My take now Peter,

had a laugh when I read Rachel's comment. I saw that image somewhere, cannot remember just yesterday.
Anyway, I had the same like Rachel with looking at it a few times and the last time I looked at it about 5min. I even saw some fleas

First I was a bit hesitating with the trees in the back. Not that they are present, just how it looks a tad like noise, somehow. After a while looking that feeling is gone
I for sure do love your take on the 2 elephants, love it. As well all what is present in the image. Great take and pushes me further in some thoughts. Thanks for that

    Have a great eve

    Ciao
    Anette

    I really like this.
Very different and compelling. I love the 2 gazelles on the RHS.
The trees look really cool- did you do some kind of manipulation?

Lovely action and tonal separation between ele's and the rest of the scene, without the elephants looking "pasted on" as can often happen when varying tone between subject and BG.

Gail I believe that's due to heat haze in the background - Peter?

Morkel is right Gail, I have those 'artifacts' as well in the trees from Etosha. Comes from the heat over there. The air is sometimes boiling!

Love this image Peter, really nice conversion with lots of power and interest.

Had the same kinds of heat haze effects with long lenses in the midday at Amboseli, but I really like it.

    Hi Guys and Gals

Thanks for the feedback , Rachel I will check out the halos on lower leg..

[QUOTE=Gail I believe that's due to heat haze in the background - Peter? =QUOTE]

Morkel and Anette are quite correct. Not only is very hot during midday hours , the ground is also very reflective as it is mostly calcrete/salt pan/ white rocks . The sky has the strangest muted grey/blue/offwhite you will ever see anywhere. Its extremely dusty/windy/sandy conditions and this all hangs around ….so conditions are always challenging but the amount of animals/opportunities are very rewarding .

    Thanks again for the feedback.

Nice - for me the processing is a little overworked, but that's you style and I applaud you for having one and sticking to it. Technically, this image is great, and we just part ways on how to PP. But that's what's interesting about photography.
