Hi folks i said this time not that long to wait for you, and here i am.
Taken the sheep in Jasper NP in Canada just out of Jasper along the railway line, got chased away by the staff of the railway, too dangerous for me they said, mmmmmhhhh, not sure about that.

    EOS 1Dx
    EF 100-400 at 190mm
    HH

    F7,1 ; ISO 800 ; 1/640 sec; + 0,67 EV

Processed in PS ; not sure about the color of the sky and the blueish cast in front of the mountains, open to suggestions from your side.

    Hope you like it

    Thanks for watching

    H Andreas,

this is a nice one. Not sure about the blue cast in the BG, would check if it looks better without, but that is just me. Hooked forever with the blue cast in shadow and mountains
Like the details very much. I might would not sharpen so much the back of the animal. Just my thoughts

    Have a great eve

    Ciao

    Hi Anette,
thanks for watching , will wait for others about the blue mountains, ok.
Re sharpening the back, i am coming still from the old film days, so everything that is in the same focal plane , should have the same amount of sharpness .It is like looking at a very good developed slide , you cannot say i do not like the sharpness on the back, i do sharpen with an edge mask, so if the edge mask shows me on the unsharpened image , there is edge contrast , i do sharpen .Sometimes i reduce it in grass or other fine detail in the FG or BG. You understand , my way?

    So i leave it there.

    Andreas

Hi Andreas - I like the comp and the feel of being on the edge of a cliff. Given the sun angle it seems that the mountain should not be in shade so that it should be more green than blue. I took the liberty of reducing both the blue and cyan on the mountain. I know you like things in the same plain to have similar sharpness but the body looks sharper than the head here to the point of looking very gritty and at least to me a bit unnatural. If it's not the sharpness then perhaps it's too contrasty.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Hi Andreas, I like the look back and the feeling of being almost on a precipice and certainly the blue, I quite like, where, as you know, I'm struggling with, is the light.

The face is very even with no shadows as such, even the left eye looks similar in light & shade, albeit on the left, likewise the coat. If the light is coming from the RHS I would expect the light to 'fall' as it progressed down the coat, if that makes sense? Again it's just my feeling and can be way off. If I am and the light is 'as shot' with no changes, then I think perhaps getting some more tonal range in. may help define things, WDYT?

    Cheers
    Steve

    Thanks Rachel and Steve
for taking your time and work on the image and try to give me a direction to improve things from your perspective.
Rachel i stick with my sharpening but would slightly try to reduce in the coat on RHS.But after watching Steve`s RP i will stick with the blueness in the mountains, told Steve yesterday i remember it looked blue not greenish as your RP, maybe as many times it is very subjective when it comes to color, out in the field. And many times also on the screen or print.

Steve- like it better with your tones in the coat and the face , bit more depth i.e.( DEATH) in the subject.I think i know where this is coming from , should keep an eye on it.
Changed my workflow from capture to output.Exposure wise i work ,better said try to, not working all the time, always on the border. I do overexpose massively, then i move back the same amount in the converter.+1.5 EV in capture means -1.5 in raw as a general rule.So i have all the shadow details in there, then i recover the highlight details ending up with a very dark image when it goes into PS.From there i work my way from shadows over mid tones to the highlights.

Sometimes i forget something on the way, like bringing detail into these magic mid tones either dark or light.Hope that explains why the face and the coat looking a bit thin, will try to make it better next time .

    Thanks Andreas

Hi Andreas, based on your reply in pane 7, I'm a little unclear about the workflow in parts of your description, however I think it's just down to 'translation' , but no problem, it's probably one of those areas where in seeing what you do, I fully understand what you mean . Certainly I have found the EV on the 1DX is often in the + mode than any other Pro bodies I have had. I might suggest a few things for you to try over the next few weeks as weather may not be that great for you to do, but I think you know what's what, already.

Lovely perspective - think the view really makes this a quirky image. I love it and I think Steve's RP is the best.
