Walrus Henry, I call them all Henry

Taken from zodiac early morning. The sun was already awake as we. Those Walrus are funny animals and when curious they come to you to the zodiac.
This is FF, LR5 usual adjustments and a tad more for the highlights. PS CS6 Levels, Midtone contrast, turned down a bit more the highlights with a Luminosity mask, contrast, USM that's it.

Hi Anette, I might look at reducing the Red in Curves, just a couple of notches in the quarter & half tone areas, blue looks a little warm.

Like the bow wave & facial expression, well done in difficult conditions.

    Interesting image Anette.
The detail is great, especially love that bulging eye and the bow-wave.
Composition wise I am not keen on the seals on the beach in the BG, but I don't know that you can crop them out as this image may not suit a pano crop.

Hi Anette, lovely image, I like the eye contact and the detail you are getting with the fake fiat 500 is superb. I had the 70-200 f/4 L IS which I just sold and am planning to get the 70-200 f/2.8 II instead (was also considering the 70-300 L). Cheers

Hi Anette - these guys can be a lot of fun. Great pose with the open mouth and good sharpness under the conditions and from a zodiac. I like the wave too. Good suggestion by Steve.

Nice light, contrast and detail here Anette.
I am with Martin on cropping from the top, and with Steve on a slight reduction in reds.

    Hi Anette,
nice shot of these amazing animals, like the overall tonality and the detail as presented.
Looks like this guy is interested in the zodiac or what is going on in the rubber thing.
Open mouth is a real bonus.
I would try to loose the rocks in the BG and go for pano, think would look nice with the move to the RHS and the rolling wave on LHS.
Maybe a slight lightening of the water.

    Hi everybody,

thanks so much for all your suggestions.
Martin those seals are big boulders :)
I will try to do a RP tomorrow with a crop, pano as it looks.
Andreas love your suggestion with the slight lightning on the water. Just need to delete a layer :))
i have darkened it a bit.
    Thank you very much everybody

    have a great eve

    ciao Anette

PS there you can see what a fake 200-400mm & 1.4 can accomplish lololol

Great image and I particularly like the open mouth and the wake in the water.
Agree with tad lightning of the water, but the bg seals are not a deal breaker for me.

RP of Henry VII, I reduced the red in curves, lighten up a bit the wave, as well reduced the blue in the shadows! Also "cooled" the water a tad.
I tried a 16:9 crop, nada, not working much for me, the boulders would be still in the image a tad. When I crop more I loose more! I also want to keep in mind, the animals are living there, it is their environment! I cannot clean so much up!
    WDYT?

Thanks Shreyas, the seals are big boulders of the island they live on, well that time

    Have a great day

    Ciao

    Hi -

I really like your repost of the walrus. If they are rocks or seals in the background I don't think it matters because it helps to show the environment this animal lives in. It looks cold and deep and dangerous, and you captured that really well. I am in 6th grade and I just started photographing last year so I don't want to comment much on the technical things as I don't know enough about them yet.

    Great job! :)

    Bye, Ashleigh

    Hi Ashleigh,

thank you very much for your comment.

It is better do participate with technical things as well, you only can learn more. You will be corrected in case you are wrong, from there you will learn every time more.
    Looking forward to your posts

    Have a great evening

    Ciao
    Anette
