Default Nearly singing in the rain...

Well here goes nothing, despite rain and gloom today managed to snatch a shot of this Pied Wagtail that fed in increasing precipitation.

    SLTA77 with Sigma 150-500 at 400mm
    ISO 1000
    1/500
    f/8

NR in RAW, levels, unsharp mask and some cloning in PS for the foreground.

    Whaddyareckon?

Now that is is up, I can see the cloning artefacts, if that is what they are called.

IMHO I think you need to go back to the drawing board with this one.

I agree, not entirely sure what went on with this . I'll put it down to experience, character building.

    Is there a delete button?

    Hi Michael, Cute bird...Nice pose!
Bird is pretty soft tho... and, what rather bothers me is that he looks like he's standing on a table, so the diagonal whitish line behind him is quite distracting... also not sure about the bg. Shooting a small black and white bird in fog/rain is really tough.... I'll be interested in seeing a different version in the future!
(...don't worry about it.... my few image posts here have pretty much been bloopers...)

This forum is about learning and I think this is an image that can be salvaged. It's a cute bird in a nice pose.

I'd suggest going back to the RAW conversion and trying to pull out a little more shadow (and maybe highlight) detail. (What do you use for RAW conversion, and if LR or ACR, what version?)

If there is no more space at the bottom on the original file, you could add canvas there. Content-aware fill might replicate some of the reflections well enough (it can be uncanny at times) and then you could work on cloning again, softening them near the bottom edge.

If there isn't enough original canvas (you didn't say if this was a crop) to rotate to straighten the "horizon" you could soften it with partial opacity cloning.

I'd love to see a RP!

Ok then, in the interests of doing what we can with a pigs ear etc AND the title of this forum, I suggest a bit of fun?

I know what I was trying to do, which was going all minimalist and everything but got way over enthusiastic with the PP. WAY over the top!!

So here is a few steps backward. Some shadows and highlights enhanced with a little NR in RAW with no sharpening (Elements 11 btw). No crop, and nothing more done after the conversion to JPEG.

The diagonal thus has a context in that the bird (yeah, I know that they are a cracking little bird!!) is sitting on a wall so arguably the foreground stays as is? The cloning was trying to eliminate some of the clutter especially the unfortunate green lump by the rear

So here it is - get stuck in. Your best efforts / comments much appreciated!

And no, I have no idea what that pale patch on the breast is either...
