Default WEEKLY THEME: The Spider Comes to Creep on YOU

    HI All,

Sorry I've been gone this week, long story. I will get back on track this weekend.

A while after midnight after Halloween, but here is my image for this fun theme.....

This was taken as a full color taken in the middle of night, pitch black a couple months ago.

It's your basic very cool garden orb weaver.

So lucky I had my flashlight or I would have walked through her turning off a hose.

Literally she built her web in a matter of 4 hours, and it was 5 feet across, and gone the next day.

I took the image from its original, because I LOVED the web so much, and turned it black and white.

Then in PP I added back in selective color "autumn" in a trial program I had at the time.

Upped the saturation of that color, then output sharpen.

Macro, Handheld, Flash Fired Slow Synchro in the darkness.

I stayed close without any zoom, about 2 inches from the web.

I actually have about 50 images of her, very cooperative, I like these spiders.

This treatment just made it very spooky to me..... Creepy Crawly my Mother said.

Great idea -- I like the treatment but wish the spider wasn't so close to the corner. Just a personal preference, though -- I like more breathing room around a subject than some people. I could also wish for a little more detail in the spider but your flash may have been strong enough to blow it out.

Great you got to shoot it, though! It's perfect for the theme.

Hi, Linz, this has a nice graphic, "cartoon" look to it and the subject is perfect for the theme

Good one Liz, I love the colors and illustration style. I would also vote for a bit more space on top, but I love the notion of the spider crawling into the frame. Good job!

I like it in the corner, as if it is hiding and gonna getcha.....the treatment gives it an eery effect, enhanced by the scary thought that it is a real spider....ugh! Great treatment

Very well done. I like the contrast of the simple, repeating lines of the web vs. the wild, hairy look of the spider! I also like how the color creeps in from the bottom in blobs. Makes a great theme image!

Thank you all sooo very much for the comments.

My apologies for being AWOL, I'm really trying to keep up.... DENTAL WORK.... Need I say more... ugh (plus packing for the Crane Festival)

The orange blobs are acutally rocks of my backyard.

Not sure why the spider got so black and lost some detail.... I think just my PP.

Original photos she had great detail, this being a night shot, turning it black and white and then reversing it to negative, lost some detail everywhere I think.

I was going more for the web itself, which just amaze me by this type of spider at how perfect they are.

I especially like the composition and the colors--how they move from the spider through the image. I, too, wish the spider was a bit more into the image, but, not a big deal.
