Little Owl young. Probably his first view of the big world which would be a black thing sticking out of a hide !!
The nest in the barn was behind the drying wall in a cavity from ground to roof. This meant the young could emerge from any of nearly a hundred drying holes in the wall !!

John, a fun BO image, nicely framed by the brick. The highlights on the owl left eye is just a bit distracting, not sure what it was. I'd suggest to try reducing it. Loi

I like this image a lot. Curious look from the owl and nicely framed with the brickwork

Agree on the highlight in the owls left eye and I seem to see a slightly yellow cast to the image

I don't think it should be any darker

    Thanks both
Yes the highlight is an interesting one. The bird is in a big open fronted barn with all the right hsnd side open, and the hide is about halfway between the back and front, The highlight is in fact a reflection of the whole open front
of the building. If you blow it up you can see the detail. I agree its a bit eye grabbing but easily sorted,.
The yellow cast could be from old plastic skyligts in the roof. I looked at them the other day and they are a yellowish colour Again easily cured.
    Thanks for your input.

Too cute!! I love the framing of the bricks. The image looks fine as far as exposure goes, and lots of good details. I'd be tempted to patch up the whitish element on the gray brick in lower right corner. 150 macro eh, must have been close!

Super sweet! Love the framing and the cute pose. Love those little feet too Johnny. I would consider a crop with less of the oof on the bottom, maybe even to the brick line.

    This is really sweet!
I like that the comp mirrors the brickwork.
This image would sing if you remove the yellow cast and fix the highlight in the right eye.
    Love it!

Wonderful image. Really cute, and amazingly close. A case where a centered comp works nicely. I'd clean up the eye and the patch on the grey brick, but to me the white and grey parts of the bird are completely color neutral, so I personally don't mind the yellow that shows up elsewhere. In any event, a fine image.

Interesting comment from you. I do have a slight colour blind problem.(Most old fellas do !!!)
I sampled it best I could, mainly on the bird and it seemed not far off to me.
I suppose working inside a barn does funny things to colours. I usually have the camera set on auto WB warm bythe way.

That's a great image, and I'd be very happy if I took it. I might be tempted to just tone down the brightness of the grey brickwork running along the bottom.

You have a terrific image here, Johnny. Love the cute factor and the framing. Here's my version with crop bottom, L & R, more sharpening on the bird and removal of slight yellow cast.

Thanks Marina- I agree the crop and sharpening improve it. I am always a bit wary with sharpening so this had none.
I am slightly colour blind as I said, but the whites are coming out fairly neutral on my gear. maybe my monitors wrong.
    Thanks again.
