This is a bit closer to home - a mother and baby Koala photographed high up in a eucalypt during a late afternoon session at Laratinga Wetlands, South Australia. Canon 1DIV, EF 600 f4 IS, 1.4TCIII, 1/320, f8, ISO 640, tripod with Wimberley II. Cropped and worked up in CS6 - comments welcome.

A cute image for sure Gerhard, the branch is a little too central for mine, would crop some from the RHS of frame and boost the shadows a tad to open up some more detail.

Darling koalas. The sunny side of the image catches my eye first and unfortunately that is not the side with the bears. If you can I would crop much of the sunny side away, add more to the left side, and open the shadows on the bears to make them more "eye-catching". I never did see koalas on my visit to OZ. I'll just have to go again!

Hi Gerhard, good eye contact, especially seeing the sunlight cast on the left hand side of the face. Junior looks concerned. I agree, taking some off the RHS wont harm the image.

Love the inclusion of junior here. It's a pity that it was in such a busy tree (but eucalyptus all look like this though ).
I'd shave from the top and RHS (and if you have it, add more space back on LHS for the koala to look into).
To make the koalas stand out some more, I'd run a multiplied highlights luminosity layer over the entire image, then bring back some shadow detail on the koalas and add some midtone contrast selectively on them.

Thanks folks for the good advice on this one. Stuart - junior looks a bit concerned? I would be concerned too if I were his size and about 20m up a slippery South Australian sugargum!
