Default Last drink of the day

Very late in the evening - the light had already started to shift from golden to blood orange.
Had a ball of a time at this location watching the dynamics between a Lioness with 4 cubs, a lone elephant bull and a herd passing by. This was one of the young members from the herd.

    Canon 7D, 300mm 2.8 II + 2.0x III, f/5.6, 1/400s, ISO 1000 (hate to push it beyond on my 7D), EC +1/3

    Comments always appreciated!

Hi Shreyas, beautiful light and it is great to see the eye of the elephant and its color. Is it a FF? Seems a bit tight in the frame. Do you have more space on the right? Loi

    Hi Shreyas
Beautiful light, slow SS makes water dripping more dramatic.
Agree with Loi about space on RHS.
On my Laptop, but the head seems a "grainy"/ oversharpened?

Beautiful colours and the fact that the bottom part of the image is in shadow really conveys the idea of sunset. I like it, but would prefer a little more space on RHS and above. Details look good and the dripping water against the pink BG is wonderful!

Great image very well captured. Lovely colours, textures and the water dripping certainly takes it up a notch. I really like the so evident eye contact as the ele drinks as well, so often the eye is not as visible with these animals and often closed when they lift their head to the sky. Agree a little more space top and right would be great. Detail looks good although maybe a tad over sharpened.

Hi Shreyas - Brendon really summed up my thoughts as well on all counts.

It would really be great if you would add your thoughts to other people's images. As you know it fosters a sense of community and helps us all learn from each other. It's recommended that you post on at least 3-5 other images each time you post your own image.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Hi Shreyas, I like the overall warm tones as it typifies late evening. I agree it is over sharp, evident by the halo on the right tusk as viewed. I might apply a % Luminosity adjustment, just helps tone done some of the 'brighter areas. I agree on not wanting to put the 7D, but if you nail the exposure you should be OK.

Look forward to seeing you round the forum.

    Thanks all for the comments.

It's a crop, @ 20%, where I took off some from the bottom and the LHS to compose the head and the water. Unfortunately, no space on the RHS.
Didn't see the sharpening issue on my laptop so thanks for pointing that out - will take a look again with fresh eyes.

@ Brendon, I was lucky to have him stare in my camera for the whole long drink. The sun was shining right in his eyes

I really like the texture, wet hide, visible eye dripping water & light. Very well captured & a unique POV. TFS.

Can't add much more but that I also like the eye very much, wish for a tad more space on the RHS (perhaps if you shot with 1.4x instead of 2x?) and that the light is very nice.
Let's see some of the lion/ele interaction?
I am off to "this location" in 3 weeks, whoop whoop!

    @ Andrew, thanks!

@ Morkel, I hear it's still too dry in Etosha this year....hope you bring in the thunders on the land, and nice shots for us to savor
Am preparing a writeup on the lion-ele interaction...will post a link along with the next pictures.
