Photo taken the 1st of March, 2008 at the Venice Rookery in Vencie, Florida. Nikon D200, 300mm f4 AF-S Nikkor with 1.4X Tele, wide open at f5.6, 1/640 sec at ISO 320.
Sharp, nice dislay, and a good EXP but otherwise many problems including the shadows on the bird, the vegetation obscuring the bird's lower body, and the uneven BKGR with too many sky holes..

I have to strongly disagree with Artie on this one - I think the background is nearly perfect. I really like when you are able to see a bit of texture in the background in my opinion it makes this image stand out. The only thing I find distracting in this photo is the shadow on the herons body - I like the foliage covering a part of the body though. It is nice to see an image like this and I really feel that I have been inspired.
Nice and sharp Scott, this is one of my favorite places for GBH.
Shadow problems mentioned agreed. The BG is not horrible but the half sky with the holes leads your eyes away a bit. Would rather see it more even or more OOF. A vertical framing might have been better for this image. BTW I think its great to hear everyone's different opinions. :)
