Greetings. Not quite the dive I was hoping for but I liked the full helmet produced by the light angle. I guess they're just too small not to have tradeoffs - dof, ss, catching them in frame ;-)...

The sharpness and detail on the head is amazing, Michael! One get this only if you are very close to subject. To get a fast flyer in focus at this distance is amazing!
Personally I like the crop, but the OOF red in BG distracts the eye a bit, would tone down.

Thanks much for your comments. They are greatly appreciated. Agree that I could go a bit warmer here. I should mention that I shoot hummingbirds at the University of California at Santa Cruz Arboretum. They have a section of hummingbird attracting plants from Austrailia that are graced with many hummers. Todd Newberry (Bio prof and bird expert) says it's like a candy store for hummingbirds. Mostly, Anna's year 'round and Allen's migrating. The abundance takes the edge off some of the difficulty of catching them in flight but not feeding... though makes for many near misses (sigh).
