Default I Told You Not to Wake Me

Taken in Svalbard, Norway. The fox on the right was napping and the one on the left wanted to play. I guess this is one form of retaliation for an unwanted wake-up call.

Tripod, this is a bit of a crop because it was just after we arrived and we were keeping our distance, luminosity mask, levels, curves, selective color adjustments, NR on bg and sharpened in CS6.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

Very cute shot. I like the placement of the foxes in the frame.
At first I didn't like the closed eyes but after looking at the image for a while I think this is actually better than open eyes in this image.

    Rachel you lucky duck,

Great image. I was so fortunate just to see a Polar fox in the far distance. It was to busy collecting food up in the cliffs! Dead birds and who knows what!!
The RHS fox could use a tiny tad turning down the brightness in the ear. But that is up to you. Otherwise all fine with me for sure

    Have a great evening

    Ciao

Rachel, very cute behavior shot. How much of a crop is it? The fox on the right lacks the details on the white. Also I think the image could benefit from a little bit more sharpening.

Aww such a cute image Rachel! I like the environment and the details and the pose of the two is sweet! Looks like he is biting off the others nose :-)

Very sweet image. A few tweaks mentioned above. I wonder if the grey blurry rock above is adding to the image..... I might crop 3cm off the top.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. Loi - This is about a 50% crop. As with the other images of these guys (or gals), the white fur is their winter coat and is just coming in. It is very fine and fluffy so there isn't much detail there even in the raw. I'll take a look at the sharpening.

Ed - because this is already a bigger crop than I would usually do, I would not want to crop it further. While IQ might be sufficient for the web with a further crop, it would not be acceptable for printing.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Wow! Never seen these foxes before, what cuties!!!Are they pups, Rachel? They must be, judging by the soft fur...I think they are absolutely gorgeous and I like to see the environment they live in-lovely image!

To me the crop is perfect. Enough detail, (love those tiny teeth!), lovely colours, and if I were to nit-pick I would say I might prefer the rocks in the BG less blurry-the subjects stand out so well that perhaps NR could be done to a lesser degree. Hope you have more where this came from? I really enjoyed viewing this

    Warmest regards,

Nice moment Rachel. I've seen some shots of these colonies and they really do blend in well with those rocks. I would play around with toning down clarity on the rocks behind them a lot and painting it back on the foxes, likewise with tonal contrast, applying very selectively just to lift them from the BG.

Were you able to get closer eventually?

Thanks Gabriela and Morkel for the comments and suggestions. Gabriela - they are kits born earlier this year.

Morkel - see this post from a few weeks ago:

    http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...7-Arctic-Fox-2

There was another image before that of one of the kits on the move.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel, I like the interaction and behavioural aspect of the image, however I agree, loosing a third or 50% of the rock above would help. I like the vibrant green of the vegetation, juxtapose to the 'granite' rock. Good to keep SS high for images like this as you need to be able to capture the interaction that can start & stop at a drop of a hat.
