This big fellow gave us a charge as we stopped to photograph him. It turned out a mock charge and then he quietened down, it was kinda scary :-) I have some shots of the charge but was marred by the acacia tree coming in the back drop :-( I used f/8 to get the DOF but again I could have used ISO 200 to double the SS.

Hi Sanjeev - you did well with such a slow ss but as we've discussed you really need more ss. The image is a little flat as posted. I took the liberty of doing a rp after opening the midtones on the ele, applying a lumo mask to the highlights everywhere but on the ele, applying a curves adjustment to the ele and adding a couple points of black to both the blacks and neutrals in selective color. Finally, I dropped the blues in a hue/saturation layer. WDYT?

    TFS,
    Rachel

Sanjeeve, my initial impression was the image a a little flat, which Rachel addressed. I'm thinking the image still has a little bit of blue cast - I'm referring to the hill behind the ele. Loi

Nice big bull! Wish we got some of them here! It will be hard to recover much from this image shot at 1/50sec as has been mentioned. Rachel's is an improvement but there's critical detail missing around the eye and that can't be recovered, I don't think. Blue hill doesn't bother me and I might try to add a little saturation in some of the other areas as the colours look rather flat, as if it was taken on a very cloudy day.
Also, at 127mm, you could probably have got away with f5.6 or even f4 and still had him in focus, and that would have given you more SS, as would pushing ISO to 400.

    Hi Sanjeev,

Nice ele bull, I as well thought sort of a bit flat. Rachel has the most done in her RP which brought it up very much for me.
The little blue cast left in the BG does not bother me much here!

    Have a great weekend

    Ciao

Nice scene here, Sanjeev, and it sounds like an exciting sighting. The elephant is just not sharp enough for me - I think 1/50 at 127mm even was cutting it too fine for the movement exhibited by this spirited ele.
Rachel's RP is better but the head just lacks critical sharpness for me. Sorry.

Hi Sanjeev, sorry but I'm with Morkel on his thoughts & reply.
